Building Your First Website with Lovable: A Beginner's Walkthrough

From blank project to a published site, with the prompts and mistakes to avoid.

Lovable lets you describe a website in plain language and watch it get built. It feels like magic the first time, and then slightly frustrating the second time, when the result does not match what was in your head. Here is how to keep the magic going.

Start with the whole picture

Your first message should describe the full site: who it is for, the pages you need, the style, and anything that must work, like a contact form or bookings. A vague first message leads to a vague foundation that you then fight for hours.

Build in layers

Once the structure exists, improve one area at a time. "Make the pricing section clearer" is a good request. "Fix everything" is not. Smaller requests are easier to check and easier to undo.

Give it references

Describe sites you like and why. "Spacing like Stripe, typography like a newspaper" gives far more direction than "make it modern".

Check on your phone

Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone. Open the preview on your own device before you publish and look for cramped text, tiny buttons and sideways scrolling.

Publish early

A live site you can share is more useful than a perfect site nobody sees. Publish, collect feedback, then improve. Our Lovable templates, like the complete news portal and the local business site, are written to give you a strong first version in a single message.
